Quard 500 is a top-notch wear-resistant steel grade that’s been quenched and tempered, making it ideal for extreme abrasion and impact situations. It’s crafted to provide a hardened martensitic microstructure, with Quard 500 plates guaranteed to have a Brinell hardness of about **470–530 HBW** for thicknesses up to around 30 mm, and **450–530 HBW** for thicker plates. This impressive combination of high hardness and toughness ensures a long service life even in the toughest industrial environments.
Quard 500 is an alloy steel with a precisely controlled chemical makeup, including carbon, manganese, silicon, and various alloying elements like chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, depending on the mill and specifications. This careful composition enhances its hardness, toughness, and weldability. Typically, Quard 500 plates exhibit a tensile strength of up to ~1650 MPa and a yield strength of around ~1300 MPa for 20 mm plates. Despite its high strength, the material maintains good impact toughness (for instance, ~25 J at –20 °C for 20 mm thickness) and can be cold-formed or bent under the right conditions, as long as the bending radius and process parameters are adhered to.
