The NACE MR0103/0175 HIC boiler sheets and plates are made from carbon-manganese steels with carefully controlled compositions, featuring low carbon (≤0.28%), manganese (0.85–1.20%), and very low levels of phosphorus and sulfur (≤0.035%). In terms of mechanical properties, these plates provide tensile strengths ranging from 415 to 585 MPa, yield strengths between 260 and 300 MPa, and an elongation of 20 to 22%, depending on their thickness. They undergo normalization or quenching and tempering processes to boost notch toughness, resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking, and weldability, ensuring they can withstand high-pressure and sour service conditions.

Impact tested : 52° C
Tempering : Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F.
Applications : Used for weld fabrication of pressure vessels that require improved notch toughness for lower than ambient temperature service.
